Our Away Day

Every year, we make a point of getting out of the office as a group, for one day, to think and talk about Justgiving and how we can improve what we do. We like our away day – it’s a bit like a school trip (except we don’t have to hold hands in pairs).

The most interesting theme we could think of this year was you – our awesome fundraisers and charities. So we asked Emily Thackray, co-founder of Live Life Then Give Life and one of the most inspirational fundraisers we know, to come and tell us her story and give us ideas on making Justgiving better for everyone.

Here she is.

You can read Emily’s amazing story, in her own words, on her 2007 fundraising page, and in more detail on her blog. There’s no way we could do justice to it here. She’s also written a lovely blog post about the talk she gave us.

Emily, thanks for inspiring us all with your brilliance and determination – we are completely in awe. Thanks for your suggestions too – adding more photos, more info about charities and more obvious links to our tips and resources. We’re on the case.

And if you’d like to do your bit for people like Emily and join the organ donor register, it’s really easy to do it here.

As if that wasn’t motivation enough, we also heard from James Kliffen from Medecins Sans Frontieres UK who came along to challenge us to keep innovating and telling the amazing stories that are going to help take charitable giving to the next level. We also listened to Richard from Clearleft who came along to educate us in agile development and user centred design. Thank you both!

We finished off the day by talking about the work we need to do to make Justgiving the best it can be, as it keeps on developing and growing. We’re going to need your help and feedback, as always, so keep in touch and let us know your ideas, suggestions, criticisms and anything else that springs to mind by emailing suggestions@justgiving.com. You’re what Justgiving’s all about and we love hearing from you.
