The Great Valentine’s Cake Bake… and a half marathon

valentines-bake-saleNow don’t go pretending you don’t know what day it is tomorrow… and whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, here’s how you can do something charitable for Valentine’s weekend – starting today.

Today: The Great Valentines Cake Bake

Help the thousands of people out there desperately waiting for a transplant that could save their lives, by supporting Live Life Then Give Life (LLTGL) in today’s big event.

Sunday: The Children’s Mutual Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon

Despite the adverse weather conditions (and possible romantic indulgences of the previous evening) 1,700 runners will descend on Royal Tunbridge Wells this Sunday to compete in The Children’s Mutual Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon.

This year 14 staff members from Children’s Mutual will be running the race.  They have trained incredibly hard and with boundless enthusiasm and so far they’ve raised £1,300 (plus Gift Aid) through their Justgiving page for a local hospice charity, Kent Kids Miles of Smiles.

If you can’t show up to support them on Sunday, you can support this great cause here.

P.S. Happy 4 years at Justgiving to our Simon – that’s 4 years of hairstyles, gadgets and lots of followers on Twitter…

Video competition (£100 prize)

Hello Justgivers

We know you’re a bunch of budding actors and directors, because you proved it in last year’s video competition.

This year, we’ve got a new video competition, and this time there’s a £100 donation up for grabs.*

Here’s how to win it:

* Make a YouTube video of your top fundraising tip(s)
* Put it on our London marathon YouTube channel
* We’ll judge the best one on 27th February

As with our competition for ‘fundraiser tip of the day‘, we’re looking for something original, as well as resourceful and useful to others.

And although it could be marathon-related, this competition isn’t just for marathon runners – it’s open to everybody.

We’ve made our own tips video – but we reckon you’ll put ours in the shade. We can’t wait to see what you come up with…

* Why £100? Because we’ve got more competitions this year, with more chances for people to win donations. Yay.

Justgiving’s top 10 fundraising tips – London Marathon 2009

experts-weekend

This weekend, five of the Justgiving team joined hundreds of runners and fundraisers at the London Marathon ‘Meet the Experts’ event. We had a great time meeting people and answering all sorts of questions.

We were there to announce our *new London marathon site* and to present our top 10 fundraising tips for marathon runners, which are:

1.    Think about your personal message – turn it into a story.
2.    Put a video and extra photos on your page. Keep it up to date so people come back and send it to their friends.
3.    Talk to your charity. Find out how your money will help them so you can tell your supporters.
4.    Email people in groups and personalise your message. Get generous donations on your page first. Send the email around pay day!
5.    Put your page address in your email signature. Use a donate badge.
6.    Promote your page with social media tools like Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.
7.    Give out your page address on cards – eg Moo minicards.
8.    Get your page featured in the local press. Send a press release to your local paper and radio station – include your page address.
9.    Send fun reminder emails asking people to donate. Update your page and keep fundraising after the event.
10.    Thank people – on your page, in an email, with a card, on your blog, Facebook or Twitter – make them feel good for supporting you!
